One of the many facetted ways the Cornelius Police Department partners with its residents is through our Community Watch Program. This service is offered to new residential neighborhoods as well as established ones. An officer will attend a neighborhood meeting, or initiate contact with a resident, and discuss the benefits of having a community watch and what the Police Department’s role is in this partnership. This collaboration gives the citizen an opportunity to voice any concerns or problems that law enforcement can assist with and gives the officer the information that is needed to survey, analyze, respond, and assess the outcome with citizen input. Officers also conduct residential security seminars, Stranger Danger presentations for youth, and will attend monthly meetings. Because the majority of neighborhood concerns are not law enforcement issues, there will be those situations that the Police Department will not be able to assist the citizen directly. The Police Department has compiled a list of agencies and people to be contacted for situations that have occurred in our Town where outside help is needed. These community referrals further enhance the Cornelius Police Department’s ability to better serve and improve the quality of life for the Town’s citizens. |
