The Cornelius Police Department Animal Services Unit has a primary mission of providing animal control services to the Town of Cornelius with emphasis on public health and safety. This service involves responding to calls regarding animal complaints, investigating incidents related to animal bites or mistreatment of animals, enforcing leash laws, and trapping of feral or stray animals. Thanks to the work of a very strong and dedicated group of local volunteers, Cornelius is fortunate to have a very strong adoption program. Animals are received into our facility through our animal control process. After the initial State-mandated screening processes are complete, eligible animals are placed for adoption with a very high rate of success. While we are not a "no-kill" shelter, our objective is to adopt every animal to a family when possible. It is through the work of our volunteers that we reach a very high level of success with this goal.
